Kinja'd!!!

Me and my “I Voted” sticker from the primary election earlier this year

People, Opponauts, wrenchers, grease monkeys, and other assorted automotive enthusiasts, the time is upon us. If you haven’t already participated in early voting or sent in an absentee ballot, today is the day. I won’t preach to you about who you should or shouldn’t vote for. All I ask of you is that you vote. Our country doesn’t work unless you get out and vote. Please.

Enjoy some fIREHOSE for your trouble.

Now go vote!

I voted this morning and they didn’t have any stickers. I was upset. Even had ballot #1 at my polling place...

I did. But I also exercised my right to vote for none of the sorry slew of choices we had for President this year...

I voted this morning.

Interestingly, the ballot scanning machine tells you which voter you our and the projected total voters. I was #175 of #659, so 1.5 hours after the polls opened over 26% of the expected voters had already shown up. I expect there will be some impressive voter turnout numbers this year.

Set the bar low, so you can claim “record number voter turnout”?

I was vote 663 for my city when I went and early voted on Friday. That said, we’re like the 9th largest city in Illinois, so that number better have been high lol

Nah, smallish town and small precinct. This was the busiest I’ve ever seen it. Most years I can vote before work without standing in a single line, and this year I was there for 20+ minutes.

As is your right. I think there is going to be a significant increase in presidential undervote this year. I did some research, and in Florida for the last several elections, the presidential undervote was as follows: 2004 - 0.36%, 2008 - 0.26%, 2012 - 0.28%

I wouldn’t be surprised to see that number go up to maybe 1.25%. That would be a huge increase considering how low is consistently is.

That being said, the “not voting for either” thing only works if you go and vote for other people/issues down ballot, or if you run a completely blank form through the scanner or whatever the mechanism is in your state. Your protest needs to be part of the undervote count.

Kinja'd!!!

This is my sexy “I Voted” picture from today.

Things I’ve said to my wife already today:

“I’m here to poll the electorate”

“Can I stuff your ballot box?”

“Can you help me with my ‘Hanging Chad’?”

I voted for everyone/thing but the very top of the ticket. I’m in one of the reddest of red states, so it matters not anyway...

I did consider voting for Gary purely as a protest vote, but just couldn’t bring myself to after some of the boneheaded things he said lately.
